Discussion on propositions (ppt):
Janette: "It is no use to put different scenarios into one map. Therefore proposition 1: Before 2030 climate change is not so important; socio-economic scenarios are dominant."
Bart van den Hurk: "We discussed the use of scenario’s with A7 ACER, and they will use only one climate scenario: W+, the most extreme scenario. Their view is that this covers all socio-economic scenarios."
Marco van Steekelenburg: "I am working on Zuidplaspolder developments. The planning procedure only takes us 10 years, and to us climate scenarios are more important: how to deal with the 100 year outlook?"
Marianne Kuijpers: "In the city of Almere 60,000 extra dwellings will be built. They asked us to make scenarios, also to answer the question if these houses are really necessary. They want us to take both extreme socio-economic and extreme climate scenarios into account. The same is happening in the region between Arnhem and Nijmegen: there are lots of developments between these cities and they want to know the influence of climate change on the Rhine, as well as population changes."
Janette: "To summarize: for some even four scenarios are too much; both climate and socio-economic scenarios are important; and projects emphasize different aspects. How can IC3 LANDS deal with this?"
Marianne (project leader IC3): "We selected 4 scenarios, but this is not fixed. They can be changed for regions, we offer a toolbox."
